I want something and have not got it!

Modern self-help concept encourages us to believe that we can manifest whatever we want. What is required is to believe in it, affirm it(affirmations) and visualize it as vividly as possible(Visualizations). “You can Manifest whatever you want” is against our basic belief(basically, we will be committing shirk by thinking we can control everything in our life). That only Allah is capable of creating anything that he wills(Kun Faya Kun – Be and It is). Yes, our responsibility is to want good things for ourselves and our loved ones, put in all the effort to bring it into existence along with making a lot of dua to Allah (SWT). If Allah wills, he will bring the thing we desire into being.

Also, this system places tremendous pressure on us to manifest something. If we have followed all the steps – affirmations, visualizations etc and yet don’t see any results, we conclude that there is something wrong with our thinking, something we are missing. This increases stress levels and if goes on for a while for various aspects of our life, it even affects our health, our self-esteem, self-confidence and relationships.

If after doing all this, the exact thing we wanted is not realized, we should know two things:

1. May be the exact thing that we wanted was not the best thing for us. May be Allah replaced it with something higher, something better which we do not understand yet. But will see it in the long term.

2. Only what Allah wills and is in accordance with our Qadr will be given to us.

Qadr is Allah’s decree or pre-destiny. This is one of the six articles of Imaan/Faith that a Muslim is required to believe in Qadr, the Good and the Bad of it.

Allah (SWT) in his infinite wisdom has written down in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz(the Book of Decrees), the destiny of each creature. No matter what a person does, the divine decree will take over and only that will come to pass in his/her life.

However, it does not mean that our efforts are futile. As Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran many times, “Are the doers of good equal to those who do evil? Nay, the reward for good is only good”(paraphrased), Allah makes sure every one gets what they worked for(be it good or bad).

Hence, there is no reason to despair. Also, those who despair of Allah’s mercy are termed as disbelievers. So, we need to be aware that we don’t fall into despair in any situation. May Allah(SWT) make us of those who believe in Allah and his Qadr and who are patient in seeking His mercy and are ever grateful to what Allah gives us.

Also, we need to remember that Allah gives as we believe. If we believe in his Mercy, he is merciful to us.

When a Calamity befalls us… Be Thankful

It is narrated that the Companions of our Prophet(SAWS) used to thank Allah (SWT) in times of trials for three things:

1. That the trial could have been worse.

2. That the trial is not in their Imaan.

3. That the trial is in this world(duniya) and NOT in the Hereafter(Akhirah)

SubhanAllah, May Allah (SWT) grant us the knowledge and patience. Ameen.

Coming back to Allah – part I

Assalam alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

These are the days when I am wondering about “did it take one or two calamities to bring me back to Allah’s way?”. Though I am a born muslim and kind of prayed sincerely some days, missed out on prayer some days. Tried not to miss any Jumah Salah. I never really saw how much I was engrossed in worldly affairs until recently. And looking back, Alhamdulillah, as Allah promised, he gave a blow or two to my consciousness, before I came to realize the truth.

Ye shall certainly be tried and tested in your possessions and in your personal selves. (3:186)

Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil); but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. (2:155)

I am grateful to Almighty Allah(SWT) for lifting up the screen from my heart and showing me the way. I pray to Allah to keep me on his path my entire life and let me not go astray ever again. Ameen.

“O Allah! Let our hearts never go astray after You have guided us to the right path; bestow upon us your mercy. You are The Most Generous.”

The incidents which were happening one after the another, I perceived them as calamities in my life. All of a sudden, I realized these are tests Allah is giving me, and my only recourse is to seek Allah and get closer to Allah.

I yearn to change my lifestyle to include more ibadah, more dhikr, more sunnah Alhamdulillah. I am working towards it and Insha’Allah Allah(SWT) will guide me.
